How To Create Fresh Content For SEO

How To Create Fresh Content For SEO

by | Feb 11, 2019

In a recent YouTube video, online marketing and SEO guru Neil Patel had some advice for those looking for insight into how to approach SEO in 2019. His first suggestion: to create “fresh”, “new”, and “super unique” content to drive traffic, backlinks, and social media shares.

But what, exactly, does “fresh”, “new”, and “super unique” actually mean in the context of content? These superlatives don’t inform content creators what approach to take, or how to evaluate it versus what they’re doing currently.

Many businesses and online marketers struggle with content creation enough as it is. Creating any content requires a certain amount of minimum effort, and creating the type of content that Neil is suggesting is an order of magnitude more difficult.

So, with all of that in mind, here are some ideas on how to create content that will be unique, be of value to your audience, and hopefully drive increased traffic and authority to your brand.

Answer Questions

If you’ve been in business for more than a few years, you likely have a wealth of knowledge about the industry you’re in. More importantly, you probably know the answers to almost every question a potential customer could ask about your products and services.

If you haven’t already, start answering those questions. Don’t try and answer every single one at once. Pick a handful of the most common ones and answer them the same way you would over the phone or in person. Your audience wants to be educated, and giving them the information they’re looking for will build trust and authority for your brand.

Share Your Data

Does your business do customer surveys? How about market research? That kind of data can be very powerful when appropriately shared with your audience. Any data and/or insights that only your business has is, by definition, unique.

If you don’t have this kind of information, or if sharing it with the public would give away trade secrets, consider looking at other areas of your business that you might be able to mine for data that is safe to publish.

Offer An Opinion

Is your business a leader in the industry, either locally or nationally? Does your experience qualify you to offer expert insight and/or opinion about the current state of your industry or its future? By all means, share those.
While there are obviously no shortage of people sharing their opinions on the internet, the vast majority are not experienced experts in the field in which they are commenting about.

Bear in mind that, ideally, your comments and opinions should be of value to the audience you are trying to attract, rather than just an audience of you peers.

Getting Your Content Found

Getting your newly created, super fresh content ranking on search engines is just as difficult (if not more so) than creating it in the first place.

In all honesty, optimizing your content for search is typically something best left to professionals. If you have an online marketing team, share your content with them and let them make any adjustments they feel necessary in order to give it the best chance to be found.

If you don’t have an internal resource for SEO, consider working with an outside digital marketing agency or SEO professional to help you collaborate on your content plan.
